THE PODCAST
We've evolved to eat an omnivorous diet, rich in nutrient-dense whole unprocessed foods. Now I say omnivorous because no traditional society was vegetarian or chose to be vegetarian. So our genes were set 2.6 million years ago during the Paleolithic period or the ice age. And our genes haven't changed much, if at all, since. We still share exactly the same genes as our hunter-gatherer ancestors of all those millions of years ago and they basically ate whatever was in their natural environment. So they ate wild animals. They really favoured the bones, the fats and the organs of the animals, and they were the most highly prized part, well and truly over the muscle meat. They ate wild seafood and eggs and nuts & seeds and plant matter. And all traditional societies ate fermented foods and they ate little fruit, not much, and it was really tart tasting, compared to the sweet fruit that's grown today. So what that looks like for us modern humans is something like this... Pastured chicken and pork and 100% grass fed meat with the fat on. Now those things are the closest thing to wild game that our ancestors hunted.
